ISOTONIC DRINK - 500 g

ISOTONIC DRINK by Pharmic Research is a carbohydrate-electrolyte beverage formula developed to support hydration, electrolyte replacement and energy availability before, during and after physical activity.

The formulation combines three rapidly available carbohydrate sources — maltodextrin, dextrose and fructose — with a targeted mineral complex providing sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and chloride. This combination is designed to address two key nutritional demands associated with prolonged or intense exercise: the availability of carbohydrate as an energy substrate and the replenishment of electrolytes lost through perspiration

Each serving provides 33 g of carbohydrates, including 10 g maltodextrin, 10 g dextrose and 10 g fructose, together with 280 mg sodium, 300 mg potassium, 120 mg calcium, 57 mg magnesium and 424.5 mg chloride.

Carbohydrate Matrix – Energy Availability

• ISOTONIC DRINK provides 33 g of carbohydrates per serving through a combination of maltodextrin, dextrose and fructose.
• Carbohydrates represent an important substrate for energy metabolism during exercise. Depending on exercise intensity and duration, muscle glycogen and circulating glucose contribute substantially to the energy requirements of working muscles.
• The formula provides a combination of carbohydrate sources with different absorption characteristics to provide a broader carbohydrate profile. Maltodextrin is a glucose polymer that can be rapidly digested, while dextrose represents a readily available form of glucose. Fructose utilizes different intestinal transport mechanisms from glucose, allowing the combination of carbohydrate sources to provide a diversified approach to carbohydrate delivery.
• This carbohydrate matrix makes the product particularly relevant during prolonged training sessions, endurance activities and other forms of sustained physical exertion.

Sodium – Primary Extracellular Electrolyte

• Each serving provides 280 mg of sodium.
• Sodium is the predominant cation in the extracellular compartment, where it plays a key role in regulating extracellular fluid volume, osmotic balance and overall electrolyte homeostasis. It is also involved in nerve transmission and normal muscle function.
• During exercise, sodium can be lost through perspiration, with the amount depending on factors such as exercise duration, environmental temperature, sweat rate and individual physiology.
• Including sodium in an isotonic beverage therefore provides targeted nutritional support for maintaining electrolyte availability during physical activity.

Potassium – Cellular Electrolyte Balance

• ISOTONIC DRINK supplies 300 mg of potassium per serving.
• Potassium is the principal positively charged ion within cells and is essential for maintaining the electrical gradient across cell membranes. It supports normal nerve signal transmission and contributes to the proper functioning of muscles and the neuromuscular system. Adequate potassium levels support normal muscle contraction and the proper transmission of nerve impulses.
• Together with sodium, potassium participates in the physiological regulation of fluid distribution and electrolyte balance.

Magnesium – Muscle and Energy Metabolism

• Each serving contains 57 mg of magnesium.
• Magnesium acts as an essential cofactor in a wide range of enzymatic processes involved in normal physiological function. It contributes to energy metabolism, supports normal muscle performance and helps maintain the body's electrolyte equilibrium.
• During physical activity, increased energy expenditure and muscular workload raise the physiological demand for magnesium, making it a relevant mineral component of sports hydration formulations.

Calcium – Muscle Function and Cellular Signaling

• The formula provides 120 mg of calcium per serving.
• Calcium is an essential mineral that participates in a broad range of physiological functions. It is involved in normal muscle contraction, neuronal signal transmission and intracellular cellular signaling, contributing to the proper regulation of neuromuscular and cellular processes.
• Within an electrolyte beverage, calcium complements magnesium, sodium and potassium to provide a broader mineral profile.

Chloride – Fluid and Electrolyte Balance

• ISOTONIC DRINK contains 424.5 mg of chloride per serving.
• Chloride is an important extracellular anion that works in conjunction with sodium and potassium in maintaining normal fluid and electrolyte balance.
• It also plays a role in the physiological regulation of gastric acid secretion, supporting the normal production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Its inclusion alongside sodium and potassium provides a more comprehensive electrolyte matrix than products focused on a single mineral.

Isotonic Hydration Concept

• The defining characteristic of an isotonic sports drink is its combination of fluid and dissolved carbohydrates and electrolytes at a concentration designed to facilitate hydration during exercise.
• ISOTONIC DRINK provides a balanced combination of carbohydrates and key electrolytes, supplying sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium and chloride as part of its formulation. This makes it suitable for situations in which both fluid intake and carbohydrate/electrolyte replacement are relevant.
• The formulation may be integrated into hydration protocols used during endurance exercise, running, cycling, fitness training, combat sports and other forms of prolonged or high-intensity physical activity.

Multi-Source Carbohydrate System

The carbohydrate component consists of:

• Maltodextrin – 10 g
• Dextrose – 10 g
• Fructose – 10 g

The use of different carbohydrate sources provides a more diversified substrate profile than relying on a single carbohydrate ingredient. This is particularly relevant during prolonged exercise, when maintaining carbohydrate availability can help support sustained physical performance.
